North East Divers Unite at Rye Playland
May 17, 2014
Dear Friends & Supporters:
First of all, if you requested to be deleted from our email list, but are still receiving this message, we apologize. We wanted to make sure everyone who was involved in the 2013 clean-up receives this message, and your address was on the contact list from last year's event. If you no longer want to receive emails from us, please send me a quick note and we will delete you from the list.
But we hope that you will consider joining us in our ongoing efforts to make a dent into the beach debris problem in our local area. This year, we are moving our successful multi-organization conservation event a little further north, into Westchester County and the Town of Rye, We are talking about Rye Playland and its surrounding beaches, a historic landmark, and the location for this year's "North East Divers Unite" annual clean-up.
The date for the 2014 North East Divers Unite Underwater/Beach Clean-Up and Clam Bake has been set for Saturday, May 17th! This will be our 5th annual event, and we invite you to join us!
The harsh winter and its many storms has done a number on our local beaches, and marine debris continues to be an issue. While it is quite easy to find and collect trash on land, we are inviting the local scuba diving community to help us locate and remove waterlogged and underwater debris to make the Rye beaches safe for the summer season. We also need beachcombers, of course, so invite everyone you know, even if they are not divers! We hope that many of you will join us in cleaning up this New York landmark to the best of our abilities.
Like last year, we will have divers in the water as well as clean-up crews along the shore, on the beach and in the grassy areas. This year's motto will be "Northeast Divers Unite" - but you do not need to be a scuba diver to participate! Bring your families and friends, we need as many volunteers as possible, as the area is extensive (we have several beaches and a sanctuary on our clean-up grid). We are hoping to collect more trash than ever before, and to accomplish this, we need your support.
The clean-up will start in the morning and run through the afternoon. There will be afternoon food service for the volunteers, including a clam bake and bbq, drinks and dessert. We hope that you will consider supporting this event again by donating funds, clean-up materials, food and/or (wo)manpower. Our sponsors will be mentioned in all event documentation, promotion and advertising, and their logos will be included on our event banner. We will also offer opportunities to set up a limited number of display tables. If you wish to participate as a sponsor, we will send you a sponsorship form with all relevant information and levels of sponsorship, which we ask you to fill out and return to us.
Looking forward to working with you at the 5th Annual North East Divers Unite Beach Clean-Up & Clam Bake on May 17th!
